The Life of Frank McCourt

The review of Angela's Ashes

The book "Angela's Ashes" by Frank McCourt, I found it to be a book that takes you back in time. While reading this book, I was able to put myself into Frank's position and play in my mind what exactly was happening. I could feel what was happening in his story, all his happiness, sadness, anger and etc. I love the fact that he was able to capture the my full attention and it allowed me to be able to grasp every detail of what he was trying to portray. Another thing I loved most about this book was that, he started as a very young child and it gradually becoming more intellectual with his aging in the story and the deeper you've read into the book. I also love reading a books that always keeps me guessing and wondering, what is going to happen next. Not some fancy little story line that you know will have a pleasant ending. But in the book, Frank McCourt is tailing you through his ups and downs in life. All his thriller happy moments and ones that will just make you want to stop and cry, and pity him for the life he had. And somehow, through all his aches and pains, he always triumphs through. With his alcoholic father, that spends all their families dole at the pubs, so they usually don't have much food and ragged out clothing. His mother, that isn't able to take care of her own children because of all the sorrow in their lives. Also, dealing with the fact that 3 of his younger siblings are deceased! Even through his hardships, he encounters more. Frank even becomes ill with typhoid and is hospitalized for weeks! Gaining other illness along the way in his life, but always recovering from them. I believe that Frank, went through a lot of hardship that he shouldn't of have to deal with at such a young age. But that helped him shape and becomes such a strong and independent kid that he is. Learning that you'll always go through hardship, but always finding a way it get through them. That is what I admire most about him. After reading this book, it makes me look at life a bit differently than before. Being grateful for the things I have, even the most simplest things. It is very eye opening.
